The End of the Punk Rockers

Hello Fellow Climbers!

This is our last week of Punk Rockers for the summer! We celebrated by climbing the first pitch of Invisible Airways yesterday and ice cream at Dolly's today. The campers were awesome and we had so much fun with them! They worked together well and climbed some of the hardest routes we've attempted all summer. Everyone was a little nervous watching our guide set up the climb, but they all tried it and did well! It was a day of challenges and everyone worked hard! They did a day of bouldering at Rumbling Bald, two days of top roping on the North Side of Looking Glass and a day in the Nose area. Every guide that took them out said they had a great time. It was sad to see everyone leave! Next week we have our last session of camp for the summer, one of group of Rocketeers. We can't wait to start again on Monday!

We are still having our Dosage V and Pizza Night on August 5th at 7:00pm and we hope to see people come out to the gym! We've posted more pictures on Snapfish and if you're having trouble finding them, just search for Brevard Rock Gym on the Snapfish website. Until next time...

Summertime

Hello Fellow Climbers!

July is winding down and we have just two more camp sessions to go! One more Punk Rockers then one more Rocketeers. Our group from last week was awesome. They got in a great day of climbing and even managed to stay dry! It was dumping rain here at the gym but the South side of Looking Glass stayed dry for them!

BRG Mountain Guide, Brian took them out with some help from Sophie and Bella...his dogs!

We had another great couple of days with Moondance. The kids were great and everyone tried a climb!
Just to let everyone know, we are having a Dosage V and Pizza Night here at the gym on August 5th. The purchase of a Boulder Day Pass gets you climbing, pizza and viewing of the newest Dosage DVD on a big screen! It's a great opportunity for the climbing community to connect and we hope to see you out here! Special thanks to Bill Neve for helping us set it up! Hope to see you out on the rock or here in the gym, but until then...

Time Flies...

Hello Fellow Climbers!

I can't believe it's been a week since we've posted! The gym has been so busy we haven't had time to update you guys in a while. We just finished up another round of Rocketeers. Another amazing group! They were all great about wanting to learn to belay and taking turns climbing, it was so fun to watch! The group was so great, in fact, that we're starting a younger climbing team this year so that they can be involved! There are some strong younger climbers out there! They had a full day out at Pilot Rock and our stand in guide, Patrick Weaver from Appalachian Mountain Institute, said they did great!

Our BRG Mountain Guides have been busy too! We've got some family groups, friend groups and Moondance again coming up this week. If you're out in Pisgah Forest, keep an eye out for Brevard Rock Gym shirts on our guides and say hi!
As a heads up to all the families, we are having a Family Night on Friday (today!) July 18, where families can climb half off! Stop by the gym and spend some quality family time climbing up the walls. We're adding more pictures to our Snapfish account, so be sure to check them out! Until then...

Rocketeers and Moondancing

Hello Fellow Climbers!
Whew, it's been a busy week! Last week we had a fun group of boys for our first Rocketeers session of the summer! A few of the boys had been to camp in previous years so it was fun to watch them help out the other campers. We had two half days in the gym learning to tie knots and working on top roping skills, then out into the forest for a full day of climbing on Looking Glass Rock! The boys were great, some of them practically ran up the climbs! Now we're starting another week of Rocketeers and this week's group is great! It's a family group and it's wonderful to have such a supportive group in camp!

Over the weekend we ran some guided trips for Moondance Adventures. Moondance is a great program that does wilderness adventures for teens, right up our alley! We took them out to the North Side and Nose area of Looking Glass and they had a great time, as did we! It was a large group but we had our guides Brian on Saturday and Marcus on Friday and they did a superb job as usual. The kids were complete troopers. On Saturday it started to rain a few hours into our climbing and instead of complaining, they were excited to climb in the rain! Everyone made it to the top of at least one climb, including the counselors! We have a few more guided trips set up for Moondance later on the month and we're looking forward to it. Well, that's it for now! We'll try to get some more pictures posted, but until then...

Sunshine Day!

Another beautiful day! We had an awesome day top roping with one of the BRG Mountain Guides, Brian! It was sunny almost the entire day, I'm sure most of us got some color out there on the rock. The last day of camp is always bittersweet. We're sad to see such great kids leave but we're looking forward to next week's group! We'll have pictures up of this week's session by Monday so be sure to check out the pictures link! Until then...

...And Back Out!

Whew, what a hike today! The campers were great though, and even had enough energy to climb a 65ft. route multiple times! We got lucky because the Southside of Looking Glass, which is normally packed, was empty when we got there! We got about an hour of the whole rock face to ourselves! It was a beautiful day made better by watching the campers get further and further along the route with every try! Great job guys! We'll have more pictures from this session by the weekend but until then....
